Enter to win 2 tickets to Bring It On: The Musical, presented by the FSCJ Artist Series!
Oh. My. Gosh. You have NO idea how excited I am about this! Get ready, ladies (and gents?) …. Bring It On: The Musical is coming to Jacksonville!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don’t think my computer could handle all of the exclamation points needed to express my excitement! Many of you know, but many of you may not, that I was a cheerleader for the majority of my life. I started cheering in second grade on the Richmond Hill rec league, and continued cheering my heart out through high school, where I finished my cheerleading career as the team captain for two years in a row. I ate, slept and breathed cheerleading – football, basketball, competition – it was my life. (Which calls for a quick trip down memory lane…)

The seniors – 2005
(Sorry, I can’t find any pictures of my younger cheer days. Probably for the best … no one wants to see those bangs, anyway.)
So it probably wasn’t a big surprise that Bring It On was (and still is – I have no shame) one of my all-time favorite movies. As in, I could quote every line and knew the moves to every cheer before it even came out on video. So when I say I am excited about my favorite flick coming to a LIVE musical, I mean I’m the can’t-sit-still-can’t-wait-until-April-first-how-many-times-can-I-watch-the-movie-between-now-and-then kind of excited. Torrance, Missy and Isis’ characters live on a stage in front of me? It’s too good to be true!
If you’re not familiar with the movie, you should probably go stick your head in a toilet bowl. Just kidding … but you should be ashamed and should Netflix that bad mama jama right now. I have not seen the play yet, but it sounds like it follows the movie line pretty closely: Bitingly relevant and sprinkled with sass, Bring It On: The Musical, inspired by the Bring It On film, takes you on a high-flying journey filled with the complexities of friendship, jealousy, betrayal, and forgiveness. Bring It On: The Musical tells the story of the challenges and unexpected bonds formed through the thrill of extreme competition. With a colorful crew of characters, an exciting fresh musical sound, dynamic choreography, and aerial stunts, this all-new musical is sure to be emotionally gratifying in its story of redemption and breathtaking with amazingly vibrant athleticism.
And yes, there will be pyramids. Watch this 30-second promo clip if you want goosebumps.
The dancing, the singing, the stunts, the tumbling …. Ah, it’s going to be so good!
So, with that, I have good news and bad news for you. The bad news first … the show is only in town one night, coming to the Times-Union Center in downtown Jacksonville on Tuesday, April 1 at 7:30 p.m. So you better clear your schedule for next Tuesday night and order your tickets now! The good news … I have a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky reader!
To enter, just comment below with your favorite line or scene from the movie. It’s going to be fun to see how many of these one-liners from the movie make their way to the stage, and we’ll start the excitement right here on this post! If you’ve never seen the movie, leave a comment letting me know why you are dying to see the musical (and also why you’ve never seen the movie and how ashamed of yourself you are). Cheers,
Best movie line “Follow me, or perish, sweater monkeys.” …But the opening scene is the best part of the movie, hands down!!!
Courtney: Why does everyone have to go on a diet?
Sparky: Because! In cheerleading we throw people into the air. And fat people don’t go as high.
I’m sexy, I’m cute, I’m popular to boot! I still know the whole song haha 🙂
And im…still…..big….. RED <3
I am with @kklausser – so to follow up – You are being a cheer-tator Torrance and a pain in my ass!
Oh, so many favorite lines…But I’d probably have to go with “this is not a democracy, it’s a cheerocracy!” I wasn’t a cheerleader myself but I was on my HS dance team and we were big Bring It On fans, too.
