Shopping with Baby | Baby Hammock

I typically do the grocery shopping for our household, but about once a month Jimmy likes to join me and we go for a little family outing to the grocery store to really stock up. I usually go to Publix right around the corner from our house, but when we make it an “event,” we like to go the Winn-Dixie a few miles away. It’s one of their new concept stores and has a coffee and gelato cafe in it, and they make these super delicious mini donuts that you can snack on while shopping. It’s so much fun shopping there, and we usually take at least an hour to make it through the whole store. (If you’re ever in the area, I suggest going there for your groceries!)

And you know what makes the shopping even more fun? A happy baby.
Let’s face it … Taking your baby who can’t sit on their own yet grocery shopping can be a challenge in itself. You basically have three options to choose from: 1. Take them in the stroller and use the basket in the bottom of the stroller for your groceries; 2. Awkwardly carry the heavy car seat on one arm while you try to stand up straight and push the buggy with the other; or 3: Put the car seat in the shopping cart and squeeze in as many grocery items you can around it and on the bottom of the cart. You know what I’m talking about, moms! And it’s definitely not safe to put it across the cart like you see some people do … that always freaks me out. (Fact: 24,000 kids a year are treated in hospital emergency rooms because of shopping cart-related injuries.)

I never really thought about this predicament until the first time I took my two-month-old grocery shopping with me. I kept my sleeping beauty in her car seat, plopped that heavy a** thing inside the buggy, and strutted through the store like all, “Look at me! I’m out of the house, have on makeup, and my baby is sleeping. Score!” And then I tried adding the box of diapers to the buggy. Ummm. And then the toilet paper. Then the milk. The end …. cart was full and I still had a list a mile long to shop for. I might as well have had “first time mom” stamped on my forehead.

Enter one of the most genius inventions ever: The Binxy Baby Hammock.

This couldn’t have come at a better time, either. For some reason when Daisy hit three months she decided she HATED the car seat. As in screamed bloody murder the entire time until I took her out or stared her in the face to make her smile. But shopping with her in our Binxy is LIFE CHANGING. She loves it!

The hammock stretches across the wide part of the shopping cart and secures with Velcro strips that lock it in place. You can either put your car seat in there and fasten the safety strap, or put your baby in the hammock and strap her in with the safety belt. Both leave ample room for your groceries AND one happy baby. No lie – every single time I use this (which is at least once a week), I have moms and grandmothers stop me to ask about it, take pictures so they can remember to buy one, or just comment on how cute and brilliant it is. It folds up nicely and is lightweight, so I actually leave it in my diaper bag so I always have it with me.
The Binxy hammock fits most standard grocery store carts, and supports up to 50 pounds in weight. It is ideally used for babies up to 6-8 months old, or until they can sit up on their own. It is safety-tested, and made of upholstery-grade fabric to ensure durability. Not to mention your baby will look even cuter lounging through the grocery store :). I HIGHLY recommend one for every mom! They also make excellent baby shower gifts, for those who like to give things that are non-traditional yet SUPER useful. (P.s. They have lots of patterns to choose from, not just this pretty floral). If you order, be sure to use my REFERRAL LINK to save 10% on your hammock. Let me know if you’ve tried one and love it, or if you’re going to give it a shot!

This is so cute! I think I’m going to get this for my cousin. I was trying to figure out what to get her because literally EVERYTHING on her baby registry has been purchased so I’ve been trying to think of some out of the box items.
