A Day in Door County + Comfy Maxi Dress

We got home Monday evening from an 11-day vacation with my hubby’s fam, and I can’t stop going through pictures reliving all of the fun we had. Jimmy and his family have gone up to Door County, Wisconsin his whole life, and I’ve been joining the tradition for the past six summers or so. We go the same week of the year and stay at the place. This year was a little different for everyone because we got to take our baby girl with us, and I must say I think it was the best time yet! We flew into Chicago Friday evening, then made the 4+ hour drive with his parents Saturday morning. (Thank goodness Daisy is a FANTASTIC traveler!) We spent the week visiting many of our regular spots and some new ones, and just enjoying the time with his parents, sister her boyfriend, and cousins.

Saturday, the day before we left, we still had a ton left on our to-do list, so all six of us loaded up in the car and made our way through town. This dress was absolutely PERFECT for a beautiful summer day, and great for dressing up or down. It’s from my favorite online shop, PinkBlush, and very versatile. It’s super soft and comfy, easy for nursing on the go, and I just love the colors and floral print. It would be so cute with a denim jacket once the temps start to drop! It was so comfortable from coffee in the morning to sunset at night. (PSA: The entire site is 20% off right now!)

We started our morning with coffee at a cute place up the road, then headed for a cheese and wine tasting. Cheese and wine taste even better at 10:30 a.m. when you’re on vacation, FYI! We stopped by one of our favorite markets for some local cherry donuts and jams, then pub-hopped (some favorites include Mike’s, AC Tap, Bayside Tavern, Peninsula Pub, and Cornerstone) and enjoyed a few brandy old fashioneds (a staple cocktail in DC), Bloody Mary’s (Wisconsin has the BEST ones!), local brews and tasty burgers (the PB&J burger at Peninsula Pub is a must-try). Of course we had to stop to pick a few cherries, and I made us stop for a picture in front of the Christmas tree. (Okay, it wasn’t a Christmas tree, but we only see those kinds of trees at Christmastime down here! So you bet this southern girl had to get pictures with those and the corn fields.) Once we were back at the hotel, Pops and ChiChi watched Daisy while she napped, and Jimmy and I went for a walk up the road to another local coffee shop (I needed all the honey lattes I could get before we left). It was an absolutely gorgeous day – so perfect to be outside and enjoy the beautiful scenery. So many beautiful flowers and houses, cute shops and restaurants, free libraries everywhere, and a beautiful view of Green Bay.

By the end of our day, Daisy had put her feet in Green Bay and Lake Michigan, fallen in love with her new Cabbage Patch cow “Clara” from ChiChi, napped four times, touched a Christmas tree, and saw real cows for the first time. We wrapped up the evening with pizza, salad, wine and cheese on the porch, and a perfect sunset as the backdrop. It was much fun seeing Jimmy take Daisy around to all of the places he’s been visiting his whole life, and introducing her to some of the locals that we’ve come to know. I’ll share more from our Door County adventures soon!
