What We Wore On Our Resort Family Vacation

Holy cow, y’all. It is HOT in Florida! It sure does make looking cute and staying that way a challenge. Daisy and I recently joined Jimmy on a work trip, and I wanted to share a few of the outfits we wore. I guess you can’t really call it a “vacation” since he had to work a conference 80% of the time we were there and I was working from the hotel room, but we were away from home, staying at a fun resort, and I didn’t have to do ANY chores for almost six days. That qualifies as a vacation in my book.

As I mentioned, Jimmy was there for a conference his company was hosting. He does marketing for Firehouse Subs, and each year they host a ‘Family Reunion’ for all of their franchisees. Their days are spent conferencing, but the evenings are fun for the families. The wonderful part of it all is that the employees get to take their families with them, so we spent five nights at the Cabana Bay Beach Resort at Universal Orlando. The hotel is a part of Universal’s new water park, Volcano Bay, and has so much to offer. Post on that coming soon!

So during the day I worked from the Starbucks inside the hotel or in the room while Daisy napped, and in between we took brief pool and snack breaks. At night, we joined Jimmy for the evening’s festivities, and you know what that meant, right? An excuse to get dressed up! The dress code was “resort casual.” Well, I don’t do “casual” very well, but the “resort” part I could definitely get on board with. So I wanted to share my outfits with you in case you’re looking for some fun summer resort wear! Daisy and I coordinated as much as possible, so I’m sharing details on her outfits, too. Because  let’s be honest … she’s the real star here. Okay fine, Jimmy looked pretty studdly as well, so sharing some of his looks, too. Get ready for lots of pictures … here we go!

DAY 1: ARRIVALS & POOL DAY

SHOP THE LOOK

When we arrived we dropped Jimmy of at a different hotel where he had to set up for the conference, and Daisy and I checked into our hotel. We hung by the pool until our room was ready, and enjoyed the resort. I had special shirts for our travel day (details on those coming soon!), and she absolutely loved walking around and exploring her new surroundings. {Click the “SHOP THE LOOK” images and links above for product details.}

DAY 2: POOL DAY & FATHER’S DAY AT CITY WALK

SHOP THE LOOK

Jimmy worked the afternoon but was able to sneak in some pool time with the fam before he left, and then we went to City Walk at Universal to celebrate Father’s Day that evening. I won’t get into the whole debacle about how I lost my phone when we got there and basically ruined dinner because we were both freaking out and Jimmy couldn’t stop obsessing over it (don’t worry, I found it two hours later!), but I will tell you that The Toothless Chocolate Emporium is super fun and super delish, as is VooDoo Donuts! I wore this cool and comfy gingham OTS dress from Versona (it’s sold out, sorry I can’t link it! Got it on clearance for $9.99), Daisy wore her signature color, and Jimmy took advantage of vacay life and rocked his $7.50 hula girl shorts from WAL-MART. We love a good deal!

Day 3: WELCOME PARTY AT CITY WALK

Monday night was the FHS welcome party, and they rented the entire pavilion level of City Walk for the private event. There would be performers, live music, cocktails, a progressive dinner, and tons of fun activities, so it was the perfect opportunity for Daisy and I to wear our matching lemon dresses. I opted for sandals because I knew we’d be out in the heat walking around a lot, but this lemon dress would be super cute with wedges, or even dressed up with nude heels.

DAY 4: AWARDS DINNER

Tuesday night we had the awards dinner, so I finally got to wear heels (because I knew we wouldn’t be doing a lot of standing). I wore my current FAVORITE tank dress, which is the most flatter dress on the planet and I need it in every color, and paired it with a sheer floral floor-length kimono to dress it up a bit. I always have so much fun wearing flowy kimonos, if you can’t tell! My stud muffin husband wore a Hawaiian shirt that I got him for his birthday and looked like a tropical GQ model. Daisy got to go to the “Kids Night Out” party while we were at dinner, so I put her in something comfy and oh-to-cute. I love that lobster romper! She had a blast, and the babysitters said she ate a ton of pizza – Jimmy’s kid fo sho!

DAY 5: FAREWELL RECEPTION

Jimmy’s “Bob Ross Happy Palm” Shirt | My Yellow Skirt

We’d planned to go out for dinner the final night before the farewell reception, but Daisy apparently was worn out from the vacay and napped straight through dinner, so we hung in the room, had a bottle of champagne and grabbed a pizza from the hotel’s restaurant. It was actually really nice! The party would call for lots of music, dancing, photo booths, glow sticks, cocktails and chasing Daisy around, so a flowy skirt and flat ankle strap sandals for the win. I am OBSESSED with this skirt from Versona! It’s so much fun, not to mention my favorite color and you can style it so many ways. Daisy wore the sweetest seersucker bloomer set, and Jimmy looked like a tropical GQ model again.

DAY 6: POOL & HOMEWARD BOUND

Strawberry Bodysuit

Before heading home we tried to hit up the lazy river one last time, but the Florida weather had other plans for us. We stared at the water from the balcony before deciding to call it quits and load up the car. Sad day. But this palm kimono is super fun, and perfect as a swimsuit coverup! Also, I realized how much I love wearing boy short swim bottoms while chasing around a toddler. It’s a total game changer.
