Door County, Wisconsin is such a magical place. It’s a little hidden gem on the a peninsula between Green Bay and Lake Michigan, and is a cluster of several small towns that make up the cutest little place to visit. Jimmy’s family has been visiting Door County since before he was born, and it’s where they’d spend a week or two every summer. He’s from Chicago and apparently it’s a popular vacation spot for mid-westerners. The first time I joined his family on their DC vacation was in the summer of 2011 and I honestly had no idea what to expect. I thought I was going to be surrounded by corn fields and eating cheese curds. While that’s partially true, there is SO much more to Door County than I ever could have imagined! It’s full of beautiful state parks and trails, stunning beaches with crystal clear water, some of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to, locally-owned wineries and so much more. I promise I will have a post coming soon highlighting some of my favorites about our visits to The Door, but for now I wanted to share these magical photos from our visit this summer.

I really wanted to capture the beauty of Door County and thought it would be really neat to do so through a local photographer’s eyes. Plus it was Jimmy’s parents’ 40th wedding anniversary right before our trip, so it was the perfect time to coordinate a family photo session. After doing some research on local photographers, I came across Artemis Photography as was in love. Her style is simply stunning, and she has such a unique way of capturing the beauty of Door County and her subjects at the same time. I was so excited when she agreed to work with me and even more excited that she happened to have availability while we were visiting! (FYI – Next time you go on a family vacation I HIGHLY suggest hiring a local photographer for a session. It’s so special and such a great way to remember your trip.)

We wanted a very Door County location, so she suggested shooting at Ellison Bay Beach which was absolutely perfect. It looked like it was going to storm any minute, so we got straight to business and Soirsce, the photographer, got to snapping. Not even 20 minutes into our session it started down-pouring without warning and we were all soaked. We hid under a giant tree waiting for a break to make a run for it (for the sake of her camera equipment and poor little Daisy), but instead of a break in the rain we noticed a beautiful rainbow forming over the shoreline. A few minutes later the rain did stop and a second rainbow formed, this time from end to end. I have never seen a rainbow like that!! You could literally see every single color and the entire arch over the water. It was incredible. We headed back out for what ended up being the most fun and magical photo session I’ve ever done, and the pictures are my favorite pictures we’ve ever had taken!

If you’re looking for a photographer in the Door County area I 10,000% recommend Artemis Photography. Soirsce is so very talented and so much fun to work with. I’ve loved following all of the stunning wedding she shoots and seeing the ways she showcases Door County and all its beauty. Follow her on Instagram and Facebook to see for yourself! Thank you so much for these pictures that we will cherish forever. I cannot wait to hang them on our walls!

P.s. This dress that I wore is the most perfect casual dress for photos! Super inexpensive, comes in several colors, the flowiness of it looks so soft and romantic, and it has POCKETS! Just throwing that out there.
