One of the toughest and most confusing things about traveling is figuring out where to stay, and it’s one of the most important decisions you can make for any trip. Location and the atmosphere can really make or break your entire experience, so it’s important to know what you’re getting yourself into ahead of time. So if you’re heading to Charleston, SC in the future, I GOT YOU, BOO!

I recently returned from a girls trip in Charleston and we had the BEST time! I’m working on a full post including everything we did, but y’all it’s going to take me a year to go through all those pictures I took! So in the meantime I wanted to share all about the amazing house we stayed in for the weekend.

THE HOUSE
It was a local house owned by a Charleston resident who so kindly opened his doors to us for three nights. The unit we stayed in was one of four units in the house, each with their own private entrance and balcony. There are two upstairs units and two downstairs in the house, and we stayed in the upper right unit. On the bottom floor is a full bathroom, a bedroom with a king-sized bed, a spacious living room, and a small kitchen with a dining area. Off the living room is a spacious balcony overlooking palm trees and other beautiful homes. Upstairs are two large bedrooms, one with a king-sized bed and one with a queen bed and a twin bed, and a full bathroom. There were six of us and we all slept comfortably with plenty of space throughout the house to never feel cramped. The bathrooms and the kitchen aren’t large, but they do the trick. And there’s a washer and dryer, which is a major perk. (WARNING: you have to go up a pretty daunting flight of stairs to get to the unit, and then another to get to the upstairs bedrooms. Just remember that when packing your suitcase! That was really entertaining to watch 😂.)

LOCATION
Let’s talk about the most important detail (in my opinion) when it comes to booking a place to stay: location. You can have the best place in the world to stay, but if it’s not near where you want to be and it’s a pain in the booty to get to all the places, it’s more of an annoyance than convenience. I’d rather be in the heart of wherever I’m staying so I can truly enjoy it. This home is located on Bee Street, and it was about a ten-minute walk to the heart of downtown Charleston. There are several beautiful places nearby and cute local shops and coffee cafes to stop along the walk, so it’s definitely not a boring walk. If you prefer to ride, it’s about a 3-5 minute Uber or car ride, but honestly it takes more time to drive and park than to walk. Plus the rental comes with private parking at the house, so you really don’t have to move your car the entire time you’re there – score! (Book it here.)
THE DETAILS
Cuteness is always a factor, especially when you’re staying with a group of bloggers. The owner did a fantastic job keeping the historic charm of the home (it was built in 1838) while modernizing it with trendy (but still comfy) furniture and decor. Artwork created by local artists adorns the walls, and the the kitchen is fully stocked with everything you’ll need during your stay. You can tell they put a lot of thought into all of the little touches. And a major bonus: the beds are SUPER comfy!
AIRBNB V. HOTEL
I’ve honestly been more of a hotel gal than home rental gal during vacations, but staying here may have changed my mind. Of course it’s nice to have housekeeping come make your bed and bring fresh sheets, and amenities like a pool and gym are always nice, but let’s be honest … you don’t go to Charleston to go to the pool. And who really goes to the gym on vacation anyway?! It was so nice being able to make ourselves at home and feel cozy in the house, and I loved having a full kitchen and fridge/freezer. I think you get a lot more for your money while living like a local during your stay. Jimmy and I stayed in a hotel right off of King Street a few years ago and honestly I prefer the house to the hotel.

So, if you’re planning a trip to Charleston and are looking for a great place to stay, check availability for this home HERE and tell them I sent you! I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Thank you so much Hayden for having us and for your hospitality! I can’t wait to go back!
