Jimmy and I spent a weekend in Charleston back in December for our 5-year wedding anniversary, and while we were there we snuck in a quick little session with my favorite CHS photogs, Valerie and Ed. Christmas decor may have been up, but I insisted on wearing light, soft colors to coordinate with the beautiful southern charm of downtown, and I’m so glad I did. There’s just something about classic pastels in professional photos that are always in style and look great hanging on your wall year-round.

I’ll share more from this shoot soon, but wanted to quickly share a few outfit ideas in case you’re planning your own photo shoot for this spring or summer!

FOR HER
I would suggest sticking with soft colors or pastels, and keeping the patterns to a minimum. If you are going to wear a pattern (floral, subtle checker and polka dot prints can be cute!), make sure your boo is in a solid color to help balance you out so your pictures aren’t too busy. I personally love flowy dresses because they look so romantic and feminine, and are so pretty when you twirl or the wind blows. Unfortunately the dress I wore here is no longer available, but I did find some other sweet pink dresses that would be perfect, and all are under $40. For shoes, keep them simple and neutral in case you do an outfit change, and make sure they’re comfy enough to walk, stand, climb and twirl in!

FOR HIM
As I mentioned above, if you’re wearing something bold or with a print, encourage him to wear something a little more subtle. A nice white or blue button down always look so nice and handsome on a man in professional photos. There’s just something about a good blue button down, don’t you agree? Jimmy loves these Chinos from Target and has them in every color, and are the perfect compliment to a dressier shirt. Helps keep the outfit nice and dressy without being too formal or too casual. The Khaki or light gray colors would look great, too! (Tip: If he’s not super thrilled about the idea of a photo shoot, surprise him with the outfit or a nice new shirt so that he doesn’t have to think about what to wear and he gets new clothes out of it. Works like a charm!)
Hope this was helpful! I’ll share more photos from this shoot soon. If you liked this post and want to see more like this let me know! I’d love to do one for different occasions, family photos, mommy and me, etc.
Also, if you’re in the Charleston, SC area and need amazing photographers, Valerie and Ed are the BEST! It’s a must that I shoot with them every time I visit š Tell them I sent ya.
