We’re Pregnant! Fun Gender Reveal Idea with a Toddler

If you don’t follow me on social media or know me in person, you might have missed the big news … we’re pregnant! Super excited to share that we are expecting our rainbow baby in January :).

These past 18 weeks have been an emotional roller coaster – pregnancy after a second trimester loss is mentally, physically and emotionally draining. But I’m happy to report that everything is going well so far, and we are very hopeful for a positive outcome this time around. (More on that topic to come.)

Today, I’m sharing how we revealed pink or blue! My anatomy scan is scheduled for next week, but at my appointment with the high-risk doctor last week came with some exciting news: the ultrasound tech was able to tell the gender! She asked if I wanted to know, so I asked if she could seal it in an envelope for me so I could find out with my husband and daughter. We did a big gender reveal party with Daisy (you can read that post or watch the video here if you’d like), and this time around I just wanted to keep it small and intimate with our little family.

That little sealed black envelope was burning a hole in my pocket and I was SO dang excited! I immediately messaged Coastal Coordinating (a wonderful local event planning company) on Instagram to see if they had any fun, last-minute ideas of ways to do a cute reveal including our toddler. They said to give them a little and see what they could come up with, and y’all I kid you not, two hours later I got a message back with everything all planned out. And it was such a cute idea: a ball pit! AND Nikki Golden had offered to come photograph the whole thing!

After picking up Daisy from school, we surprised her with the news and showed up at Chic Booth‘s photography studio here in town. I handed over the little black envelope to Emily from Coastal Coordinating, they sent us to the back room, and got to work. The ball pit was full of all white balls, and they would be hiding either pink or blue in the bottom. Once ready, we climbed into the ball pit with our eyes closed (in case any colored balls came to the surface), and kept them closed until the countdown began …

3 …. 2 …. 1 ….!

We dug our hands into the balls, threw them up in the air and opened our eyes to see … PINK!!!!!

Shocked was an understatement. Jimmy and I were both convinced it was a boy! Daisy said she knew all along it was a girl, and she was right :). So many emotions rolled through in those couple of seconds, and I was just overwhelmed with gratefulness. I am so excited for her to have a sister, and I can’t wait for all of the matching outfits!

You can watch a quick video of the reveal if you want to see it in action.

The whole thing was so much fun, and it was such a cute and creative way to do a gender reveal. I’m so thankful to Coastal Coordinating for putting everything together to perfectly and quickly, for Chic Booth for letting us use their studio and ball pit, and Nikki for the beautiful pictures that we will cherish forever. If you’re in the area and ever in need of any of their services, I can’t recommend them enough. Tell them I sent you!

Also thanks to Alley Cakes for hooking us up with these confetti cannons! We used one during the reveal/photo shoot, and the others to share the news with all of our neighborhood friends when we got home So fun!

Can’t wait to share more on this journey with you over the next few months. Here’s so a safe and healthy pregnancy, delivery and baby GIRL!
